Keyboard shortcuts for switching between rooms

Just tried to switch between rooms with the CMD+OPT+Arrow keyboard shortcuts and it didn't work.

One option, IMO, would allow for the user to customize the keyboard shortcuts

okay, there's two issues here so I'll address the preferences one first - I agree that a preference for the shortcut is a good idea but I'll be honest, it's a pretty low priority compared to other items in my queue. I'll certainly keep it in mind.

However, the fact that command-option-[left/right arrow] isn't working for you is really troubling - it's definitely working for me and other early-access users...

I have to ask though, are you trying to switch between room windows with that shortcut? It's been coded as next/previous "tab", rather than next/previous "room" - if you see the distinction.

I totally understand about the preferences thing. Not a big deal at all.

Here's the url to a little screenshot. Maybe this well help you see what I'm talking about:

I have two rooms open, one in each tab and I'm not able to switch back and forth. If that doesn't make sense let me know.

Also, I work with a few developers who would be interested in trying out Propane. Let me know how you would want to handle this. I totally understand if you want to keep the number of users down to a minimum and not give the beta out to too many people.

from the 'view' menu, are either of the next/previous tab menu items enabled?

If so, is the enabled item sensible? As in, with 2 tabs and the right-hand tab selected, is 'previous' enabled and 'next' disabled? (just wondering if the tab control is confused).

Also, does selecting the enabled menu item switch tabs correctly?

What I'm wondering is if a global keyboard shortcut is overriding propane's shortcut - which would add weight to the need for a preference :-(

As for more early-access testers, a few more isn't going to kill me but don't go hog-wild with it :-)

It is showing Previous and Next Tab correctly in the View menu

If these guys are testing Propane should I have them go to and sign up there?

Okay, they're correctly enabled - do they work?

And as for signing up - tender doesn't give me access to signed-up users as such (which imho is a good thing, none of my business unless they flag an issue). So no need really.

They are correctly enabled but when I use those commands nothing happens.

There is one guy that I gave Propane to and I told him to check out just in case he has any questions/suggestions.

I really appreciate you taking the time to go through this, I know it must be frustrating.

But I have to ask, just to be utterly sure - you're saying that selecting the next tab or previous tab menu item doesn't work even though it's enabled (not the keyboard shortcut, the menu item)?

I've hammered the UI loads trying to track down where it might be failing - i.e. changing the tab order, dragging tabs to their own windows and then re-assembling them in a single window - and I just can't reproduce either losing the keyboard-shortcut or losing the menu invokations. It's freaky.

Dude, I'm sorry. I didn't understand what you were asking. It does work if I go to the View menu and select Previous or Next.

Just realized while writing this post that CMD+OPT+Left/Right arrow is next/previous track for iTunes :)

at least it's not something really bad - it just means I've got no choice, I'll have to supply a preference for it.

    Hey Trevor,

Chris W replied to this topic but for some reason deleted it - I'll restate here because he made a good point:

If a system-wide keyboard shortcut you have for itunes is conflicting with Propane then you can remap Propane's shortcuts in system preferences: ( shows a remapping to command-[ and command-] )

IMHO there's not much point in re-inventing a UI to accomplish what's already available so I'm going to mark this as resolved.

Obviously if it doesn't work for you then do let me know and we'll see what's going on.

    Regards, Trevor
