mattly: trevor: stupid propane feature request

mattly: when the connection to campfire fails
mattly: because say, you're running a proxy that intercepts all connections including SSL
mattly: and it goes "oh, youre not really 37 signals inc, i shouldn't talk to you"
mattly: propane just pretends its offline
mattly: instead of warning you you're talking to a black hole
trevor: what you're asking for is for Propane to detect persistent polling failures and treat 'too many failures' as some sort of an interface lock
trevor: right?
mattly: yeah

Hey guys, I have had weird issues like this today. Twice, in all 3 of my campfire sessions I had open, it would seem I lost connection but was allowed to keep talking. It wasn't until I tried to upload a file that I noticed something must be wrong.

When I log into the webapp it shows I had "logged out" hours before

    Hi Andrew,

there is a slightly hackish way to get feedback about potential problems sending your messages to Campfire described here.

I have left the actual campfire posting/receiving of messages alone as much as possible (to insulate us all from any future changes that 37s make to Campfire). Unfortunately that's a strategy which makes it exceedingly difficult to intelligently detect failures (without resorting to some pretty ugly hacks).

I'm working on making it more bulletproof, but I have to say I can't give an ETA because it involves a lot of ripping and tearing.

    Regards, Trev

Thanks for the quick reply! What a cool hack that is, I will definitely do that. Totally understand, thanks again.
