Will not log in with OpenID

I have attached my campfire login to 37signals' new identity system with an OpenID. Now I am unable to log in via Propane. It prompts me for a username and password when I try to enter a room or update the list of rooms. I've updated to 1.0.4 this morning. I can log in to Campfire via the web interface without issue. I really don't want to use a username/password when OpenID is available.

I'm experiencing the same problem with OpenID

I'm sorry guys, but OpenID is not supported with Propane.

I guess you must have upgraded your Campfire accounts before Propane had a chance to alert you of the change (forcing you to check the box that said "I understand Propane doesn't support OpenID").

I'm hoping that the new Campfire API will improve enough that I'll be able to switch over to API-only and not have to deal with login interactions.

In the mean-time, if you must use OpenID then I believe you can set the "Remember me" cookie when logging-in with Safari. The next time Propane launches it will have access to the cookie and will be able to login without providing any sort of credentials.

As for directly supporting OpenID - at this point I have no plans to do so. It is an authentication mechanism that is poorly suited to an application like Propane.

    Regards, Trevor

Ugh -- this is biting me right now too. I'm hopeful that support will be added at some point to use the API token. The is a big downer.

Thanks for the update, Trevor. I tried your work around but doesn't seem to be working.

    Hi Matt,

I just re-verified that the remember-me trick works on my machine.

    • Are you certain you logged in with "remember-me" in Safari?
    • Is there a chance you subsequently clicked "sign-out" (which destroys the remember-me)?

Trevor, I did use Safari but did not work the first time. I however did try again after a reboot and seems to be working fine now. Although I did log in via fluid this time, figured it was webkit so it should work the same. I must have had a weird cookie or caching issue.

    Thanks for the workaround!

    Hey guys,

it would seem that you can have both a username/password and an OpenID - see http://twitter.com/37signals/status/7050443510

It seems that the login/password you choose persists (and can log you in) even after you switch your account to use OpenID.

On the other hand, it seems that if you switch your account from OpenID to username/password, you lose the OpenID login capability.

So the steps would be: 1) setup the username/password and then 2) switch your account to use an OpenID and finally 3) tell Propane about the username/password the next time it tries to login.

    Regards, Trev
