Adding timestamp to messages
Since I recently converted to a paid user, I figured I'd submit a feature request for something that's been bugging me for awhile.
It'd be great if there was an option to add a timestamp to each message (incoming and outgoing). Currently there is the somewhat sporadic time marker (it appears to mark after there has been an extended lull in conversation). While that's somewhat helpful, knowing exactly when each message was sent would be much more useful.
Thanks!
Ed

Hi Ed,
thanks for the feedback and sorry it's taken so long for me to respond - I've been out of the country visiting in-laws etc.
Timestamps are certainly a sore point: Campfire ought to be inserting them every 5 minutes but that's often not the case, especially when the messages are sporadic.
Unfortunately the current version of Propane can't support additional timestamps because the information isn't provided in the data I get back from the server.
The next version of Propane will access Campfire using the API and that does have individual message timestamps but I haven't allocated any time to allowing view customizations like per-message timestamps.
That said, once I'm using the API I'll be able to be 100% reliable in displaying the per-five-minute timestamps.
Once Propane2 is ready it'll be released to registered users to test-drive - I'm pushing hard for a mid-october preview.
Regards, Trev

Trev,
Thanks for the reply. The 5-min stamps will be helpful. Is adding a timestamp on your end when passing each message not feasible? Like a "Time.now" type thing. Timezones would of course be problematic, but I assume you have some introspection into that on the client side...?
Thanks,
Ed

Hey,
the main problem with putting it into the current version is that tampering with the Campfire HTML UI from inside Propane has (on numerous occasions) resulted in a temperamental and fragile mess.
That's my main driver for re-implmenting Propane. Fewer moving parts and external dependencies will mean my features can be bulletproof.
