I would like the ability to join public Campfire rooms (using the public URL) in Propane.

I've seen it discussed other places, but wanted to make a proper discussion for it.

I second this. Propane's usefulness is unfortunately somewhat limited for me if I can't enter public rooms via an invite URL.

+1 I got a journalism student group to start using campfire vs twitter chat's or IRC but its guest access only. So as unneeded as this feature is, I would like to be able to enter public rooms.

There is going to be one limitation I won't be able to overcome with a public URL.

You won't be able to access a campfire host using a login as well as access a room on that same host via a public URL. The cookies set by Campfire are incompatible.

Which will mean that it will have to be an either-or situation. Either you have a login for the host or it's a host where you only have public URLs to various rooms.

It's on the list of things I'm trying to include in 1.0

Trevor: any news on this? We've got a handful of folks who would hang in a public support channel if they could use Propane (which most or all already have). I don't know whether this would create new registrations, but it would definitely help existing customers and increase app usage. And thanks!

Every time I think about this feature I imagine how cool it would be for people to use Propane to join a public support room to ask me questions ... about Propane :-)

However, there's a significant amount of work involved in allowing guest access. In Propane1 it ended up too brittle because of interactions with the cookie storage used by webviews in Propane and the rest of the system (such as Safari or Fluid).

The situation has improved somewhat in newer versions of OSX and now that Propane2 does not use webviews, it's actually back within the realms of possibility again.

It absolutely will not be a feature in 2.0 but as long as everything proceeds according to plan I should be able to include it in an early point release.

    Regards, Trev

Just another +1 for this feature.
